Jefferson County Fire District #1, Madras, Or

Our fire department is mostly volunteer lead by a very active and dedicated paid staff of 5. We have a chief, an assistant chief, a training officer, a maintenance that does building and vehicles and an administrative assistant.

We cover a very large area in Central Oregon's high desert.  It is hot in summer so we have a lot of grass fires. It is cold in winter and we are a rural area so we have a lot of chimney fires.

We protect the variety of buildings from barns to businesses.   We have 4 major highways that intersect in Madras so we have a lot of wrecks.  Again it is a rural area with a lot of straight roads that people speed on so some of the wrecks are quite extensive extraction work. We have populated areas, areas with no roads into them. We have steep grades, flats lands and lakes. We have it all in Central Oregon.

I am so proud of our area and our emergency services from the police, fire, EMT's and our rural hospital.

One of our volunteers showing what beautiful country we live in.
