My two buddies. The herding dog is pretty safe out in the sagebrush as they seem to have a built in instinct above wildlife such as coyotes but most dogs you have to be really careful with when you are out. I saw a bald eagle get a small poodle once a lady had with her. He flew down and grabbed the dog and took off with it before the lady even knew he was around.

Also be extremely careful as every year people come down and hike with their dog sand lose them. Some are found and some are coyote bait and some just starve to death.

If you take your dogs with you please be sure and take lots of water with you.  Put them on a lease or watch them like you would a baby that someone is trying to steal. Paco rarely gets off his lease. Hank is trained to never go far and always stays in my sight even if others call him. He won't even go with my mom unless I tell him too. 5 to 10 minutes a day training your dogs may save their lives. A few minutes every day and it won't be long until they are very dependable works so much better then 30 minutes once or twice a week. Try it, you will be amazed at what consistent daily training of 5 minutes will do.

Another thing you should be aware of it that ticks are in the sagebrush so be sure and vaccinate your dog for  Limes Disease. There is a rattlesnake vaccination available now too and they should be vaccinated for that too. Be sure all the normal vaccinations are up to  date before you ever take your dog off your place.  They should be micro chipped and a tag or collar that identifies them with your cell phone number instead of your home number as many people lose the dogs while traveling.

All areas have special dangers, the ocean, canyons, lakes, traffic. Be sure and protect your best friends where you will have happy days for years to come.
