Golden Eagle & Red Tailed Hawk
When I was small Golden Eagles, a few Bald Eagles, lots of hawks and buzzards were everywhere. Then they poisoned the rabbits and coyotes as the rabbits were eating crops like mad. They could actually eat a field down at the edge for 2 feet into the field right to the ground. In a week they could destroy your crop and livelihood so they poisoned them. They did not realize that by poisoning the rabbits the birds of prey and the clean up birds would eat them and also be destroyed. The effects lasted for years even after they quit the practice. I understand it made the egg shells weak and the babies would not survive but I am not sure of that fact. Anyway you never hardly ever saw any of these birds but in the last few years they have been making a big comeback. The Red Tailed Hawk or fence post hawk can be seen on the telephone poles, fence posts everywhere and even the Golden Eagles and Buzzards are coming back.
