The fire started East of Emerson on Qualle Road but the wind was really blowing hard
Hwy 97 North of the fire coming from Willowdale towards Madras
Traffic stopped as you could not see. Hwy 97 closed for quite a while in both directions as police tried to turn trucks around and lead trucks through when they could. Viability about 5 feet
This is hwy 97 on the South end of fire from Madras headed towards Willowdale. Trucks were backed up for miles. Some were able to turn around and head back to town
The fire was traveling fast, it jumped two roads, Quallie and Hwy 97. Our fire departments in Central Oregon sent units to help and they did an amazing job fighting the fire in the strong winds and dry conditions.
