Fire on "J" street near Buff

I am sure this fire was started by a person or kids. I am choosing kids as it started under the bridge, they either did it on purpose or were playing with matches or trying to smoke.

This is the bridge it started under and it came out the south side. The police officer that responded is one of Madras PD's best officers so I am thinking that this case may be solved if at all possible.

The fire headed through sagebrush and dried weeds being carried by a pretty good wind right to the standing wheat field.

The firemen trying to get it knocked down before it catches the wheat field on fire and heads for the hay barn.

You can barely see the second fire unit due to the smoke. Thinking maybe they got it knocked down before it hit that standing wheat.

As my dad would have said "dag nab it" there it goes again.

Headed for the hay barn full speed ahead.

The firemen say "no way fire" as they are there to protect the barn and knock it down again.

A hot and furious fight continues.

The firemen win again!

The fire is determined and it tries even a different direction as it heads East but once again it meets with a firetruck.

The fire once again puts up a fight.

The fire finally gives up. It is all over except for mopping up  the hot spots. Good job fireman and firewomen you did a great job.

Jefferson County Fire District is mostly a volunteer organization but they train hard and do an excellent job of keeping our county and town safe.

Fire @ Hwy 97 North of Madras

The fire started East of Emerson on Qualle Road but the wind was really blowing hard
Hwy 97 North of the fire coming from Willowdale towards Madras
Traffic stopped as you could not see. Hwy 97 closed for quite a while in both directions as police tried to turn trucks around and lead trucks through when they could. Viability about 5 feet
This is hwy 97 on the South end of fire from Madras headed towards Willowdale. Trucks were backed up for miles. Some were able to turn around and head back to town
The fire was traveling fast, it jumped two roads, Quallie and Hwy 97. Our fire departments in Central Oregon sent units to help and they did an amazing job fighting the fire in the strong winds and dry conditions.

Madras, Oregon Air show

I thought this little plane was so cute.

The kids were loving this little train rides

Another unusual plane

The USA flag coming down for a landing

We might be a small town but I think they put on a great airshow. Lots of people, lots of good food, lots of planes, lots of laughter and lots of other things to fill in the times between flights..Good Job to the Madras Airport Manager Rob Berg and to all the people who volunteer and run the air show.

Airshow of the Cascades, Madras, Oregon

Just a few of the photos from the airshow in 2012.

It was nice this year as it was not really hot, about 80 degrees with a cool wind blowing part of the time. Lots of cars and planes but did not have time to post all of them. Great food, great seeing people I have not seen for years. Seeing the people was my favorite part of the whole day.

I did not get any photos of the bombing and fireworks and play fighting with the planes as when the sun went down the temp dropped immediately about 15 degrees and mom was cold. The first bomb or wall of fire was as I was walking to the car with my arms full.

Oregon Forest fires

The sun during the day from all the smoke. Good for photos, terrible for people who have health issues. Usually the dry clean air of Central Oregon is good for breathing problems. This smoke is coming from the Waterfall fire on the Warm Springs Reservation near Mt. Jefferson. They have several lakes and camp grounds closed on and off reservation due to this fire. It is over 8,000 acres and still not under control.

You can see the blue sky on the right of the photo that this is day time.

This is at our airport here in Madras. They have our annual airshow this weekend and hoping that the fire does not make them cancel or cause problems.

A photo of Madras, Oregon in the early morning after the wind blew some of the smoke away but as you can tell it is still really smokey.

This is the sunrise yesterday. Another beautiful photo but I can't help but worry about what this smoke is doing to the people with health issues. It is making for a busy time for the ambulance.

This season has been so dry that the fire danger is extreme. Please be extra careful not to cause any more fires then we have from the lightning.  Protect our beautiful state. I am so glad that this fire is not in a populated area but it is sure causing some financial loss to the tribes from loss of timber and from the logging jobs on hold because of the fire.

Growing Carrot seed

Sorry I have not been on this blog for awhile. I have been extremely busy and have not had time to post anything or get any new photos.

Raising seed crops has become one of the biggest crops in Central Oregon. They raise flower seeds, onion seeds, carrot seeds and many others.  Driving around when the flowers are blooming is really neat but I also like the carrot crops and even the garlic and onion.

I remember when mint first came I hated the smell when they were distilling it but after being gone for years it is a sweet smell of home.

Going to be gone for a couple of weeks and I won't be on here as I will be out of state. If you want to see any photos of our travel landscapes or fun shots you will have to go to:

http://65andgoingstrong.blogspot.com/

I will be logging photos and fun shots of things we are doing on our trip. Another part of the good ole USA I love, the Tetons and western Montana..Going to see my grandson.
